Introduction
The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is the first Veterinary School in China, with a history dating back to 1904 during the Qing Dynasty of China. Contemporary Chinese Veterinary Education originated from the CVM. Three academics at the Chinese Engineering Academy were from this college. The CVM is also one of the few Chinese Veterinary Colleges that provide multiple training programs including ones for obtaining a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), a Master of Science (MS), a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), and Postdoctoral fellowships. Currently, the CVM employs 68 faculty members including 47 professors and associate professors. The majority of the faculty members hold Ph.D. degrees or higher and have had academic experience abroad. There are 590 undergraduate and 540 postgraduates at CVM.
Majors and Specializations
The College provides professional training in two majors for undergraduate students, Veterinary Medicine, and Veterinary Public Health. There are four specializations for post-graduate students, including Basic Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Preventive Medicine, Veterinary Clinical Medicine, and Veterinary Public Health. These which cover research areas and aspects related to Animal Anatomy and Physiology, Pathology, Animal Histology, Microbiology and Immunology, Veterinary Pharmacology, Animal Infectious Disease, Animal Parasitological Diseases, Animal Inspection and Quarantine, Food Safety, Zoonosis, Disease Model and Transgenic Animals, Traditional Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Anesthesiology and Surgery; Veterinary Internal Medicine, Animal Reproduction and Obstetrics, Veterinary Radiology and imaging, Metabolic Diseases.

Veterinary medicine is the first level discipline with the authorization to grant Ph.D. degree. Veterinary Preventive Medicine is a state-level key discipline, and Basic Veterinary Medicine is the cultivating state-level key discipline. Currently, the College has following academic platforms: OIE Asia Regional collaboration center for Food-borne Parasitic Zoonotic Disease, Key laboratory for Zoonosis in Ministry of Education, 5 Jilin Provincial Key laboratories or Engineering Centers. More than 100 projects were granted from different levels including Program 973,863 Program, key projects from the Ministry of Science and Technology, and projectssponsored by the National Science Foundation. We publish more than 100 SCI papers annually. Our researchin the fields of veterinary public health, food safety, transgenic animals, and metabolic diseases, has been praised by colleagues both domestically and abroad.
International Collaboration Programs
The College has established international academic collaboration with more than 10 universities such as Minnesota University of the USA; Edinburgh University of the UK, the Eleventh University of Paris in France, Giessen University of Germany, and Hokkaido University of Japan.
