In June 2019, 238 international students from 59 countries graduate from JLU, including 11 PhDs, 96 masters and 131 undergraduates. The graduating international students are another group of talents cultivated by JLU through the cooperation with other countries. Their graduation marks JLU’s contribution to enhancing the friendship between the countries, promoting the economic and cultural exchanges, and bringing benefit to the whole mankind. It also serves as a bridge built by JLU for strengthening the relationship with other countries and building a community with a shared future. At this fruitful graduation time, which is full of happiness for gains and sadness for parting, JLU organizes a series of colorful activities for the graduates to have an unforgettable experience.
On June 20, 131 international undergraduate students from 26 countries and regions attended 2019 JLU Commencement. 9 of them won the honor of “2019 JLU Excellent Graduate”. Marsha, a Russian graduate from Class of 2019 majoring in International Economy and Trade, made a speech, representing all international students. She thanked JLU for the unforgettable time of youth she spent here. She said, “We should bring our stories in China back to our homes, so that people will know a real China. As cultural ambassadors and disseminators, we international students should bring a wonderful China to the world.” After the ceremony, Party Secretary Yang Zhenbin and President Zhang Xi had a friendly talk with international students and took some pictures with them.
On June 20-21, graduating international students attended 2019 JLU Undergraduate Degree Awarding Ceremony and 2019 JLU Graduate Commencement and Degree Awarding Ceremony. Representing international students, Xiaobu, a Ghanaian PhD. candidate from Class of 2019 majoring in International Relation of School of International and Public Affairs, thanked Chinese government and JLU for giving him the chance to study in China. He also showed his appreciation for “One Belt and One Road Initiative” for building a closer tie to the China-Africa community with a shared future and providing a wider space for African young people to develop themselves. He believed that the Initiative not only enhanced mutual understanding among people, but exerted profound influence on promoting China-Africa cooperation and the common development of countries around the world. He said after graduation he would make his contribution to the long-lasting friendship between China, Ghana and other African countries.
On the afternoon of June 25, the Bon Voyage Party for 2019 International Students was held in Friendship Guesthouse. Li Meihua, president of College of International Education presented and sent her best wishes to the graduates. She hoped the graduates could cherish the last few days in JLU and become optimistic, diligent and kind people in the future. Whether they would continue with their study or go back to work in their own countries, she hoped they would carry forward JLU’s spirit of truth and creativity, and bring Chinese people’s hospitality to the world. Representing all graduates, Ma Xi, an Argentine student, expressed his gratitude for JLU and his blessings for all his fellow graduates. The ensuing performance took the party atmosphere to the zenith. All the international students danced happily to celebrate their graduation and turn their remaining moments in JLU into lasting memory.
The graduating international students have spent their beautiful days in JLU, built lasting friendship with students from around the world and had unforgettable experiences. They may continue with their study in university, start to work in China, or begin their career in their own countries. We sincerely hope they will bring to their study or work the spirit of JLU – innovation and striving, share what they see and hear in China, and bring a brilliant China to the world.
