From July 30th to August 26th, the Confucius Institute Scholarship Four-week Program unfolded in JLU. At the graduation ceremony, Li Meihua, Dean of the College of International Education, granted certificates to members of the program. The ceremony was attended by teachers of School of International Chinese Language Education and other relevant personnel.

The theme of this program is Chinese language+experience in Chinese families. Accordingly, the School of International Chinese Language Education arranged targeted Chinese language teaching courses and lectures on traditional Chinese culture such as calligraphy, traditional painting, paper-cutting, erhu (a two-stringed bowed musical instrument) and Tai Chi boxing. The College of International Education arranged diverse cultural experience and field activities such as a tea ceremony and a lecture on traditional Chinese medicine, reading, hiking, picnic, a tour of the JLU campus, a museum and CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd.

To help students attending the program to familiarize themselves with the new environment, the College of International Education selected a batch of Chinese students on campus as companions throughout the whole program. Students of the program visited families of their companions, chatted with their family members, and learned how to make dumplings and other Chinese food. A student from Israel said that this was the first time he had made dumplings and that he liked Chinese food and the warmth in Chinese families, which reminded him of his home in Jerusalem.

At the graduation ceremony, Two students whose Chinese Nuomu and Jiaer from Israel played guitar and sang a Chinese song The Moon Represents My Heart. Yuze from Argentina spoke on behalf of all the students. He touchingly said that learning in China was a special experience to him; attendees exchanged with each other and developed mutual understanding, experienced the Chinese culture and learned about the Israeli culture. He believed that should they run into each other in any corner of the world, they would still be friends.

This program was funded by the Confucius Institute Scholarship offered by Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters. The 17 students are from the Confucius Institute at the University of Buenos Aires and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Thanks to the program, the students felt the unique charm of the Chinese culture, kept up with the enormous changes of social development in todays China, and deepened their mutual understanding. The program promoted the exchanges and mutual learning between these excellent young people from different countries. Now the Confucius Institute Scholarship has become an important platform for international Chinese language learners to come to China for exchanges.
