Introduction
College of Chemistry, previously known as Department of Chemistry, was founded in 1952 by Academician Tsai Liusheng, Academician Tang Auchin, Professor Kuan Shizhi, and Professor Tao Weisun. In June 2000, the former Jilin University, the former Jilin University of Technology, the former Norman Bethune Medical University, the former Changchun University of Science and Technology, and the former Changchun Institute of Posts and Telecommunications merged into the new Jilin University. College of Chemistry was then formed by the staff and students in Chemistry Discipline from all the five universities in May 2001.
There are 359 faculty members working in the College, including 4 members of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 139 full professors (115 Ph.D. supervisors), 101 associated professors, 1,154 undergraduate students and 1,242 graduate students.
Our College focuses on both student education and scientific research. Our researches on quantum chemistry computation, polymer statistical mechanics, oriented growth and molecular engineering of microporous crystals, hydrothermal synthesis of inorganic functional materials, supramolecular structure and materials, and specialty engineering plastics are well-recognized in the scientific community. Both the quantity and quality of our research papers increase every year. On the aspect of scientific and technological application, rapid progress has been made. Some patented scientific instruments have been put in mass production and some research achievements have been transformed internationally.
College of Chemistry actively cooperates and communicates with domestic and overseas famous universities and scientific research institutions. More than 69% of our undergraduate students pursued graduate studies in both domestic and abroad universities. A large number of well-known professors from our College have been invited to make plenary speeches and keynote reports on international academic conferences, and serve in the committees for top international scientific journals and research institutions. We also successfully hosted many international conferences. The College has established a global collaborative network of research partnership with prominent research institutes from USA, UK, Germany, Japan, Korea, Spain, France, Canada, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions.
