On the afternoon of May 12th , the fifth student recital contest called “Youth in Foreign Land Is Splendid” was held in South China University of Technology. He Xiangmin, Secretary-General of China Association for International Education (CAFSA), Yuan Li, Director of Division of Scholarships of Hanban/ Confucius Institute Headquarters, attended this activity and delivered a speech. Students of Jilin University, Nguyen Quoc Tu, who won the Confucius Institute Scholarship, and Lisa, who won Chinese Government Scholarship, performed “The Charm of Chinese” and won the third prize.
Participants in this contest were international students from 22 colleges and universities that received Confucious Institute Scholarship, such as Beijing Institute of Technology, Tongji University, Shanghai International Studies University, Jilin university, Dalian University of Technology, Chongqing University, Tianjin University, Shaanxi Normal University and Southwest University. All students presented wonderful recital performances, telling stories of their bitter and the sweet life as well as what they have gained in China. Two international students, via their humorous language and interesting performances, presented “The Charm of Chinese Language”, a cross talk choreographed by College of International Education. They told the audience about the problems and misunderstandings they ran into during the course of learning Chinese and Chinese culture in China, and the laughter and loud applause brought by them eased the tension on the spot.
To enrich international students’ life on campus, College of International Education has held the International Cultural Festival, galas and Chinese language contests and other activities The aim is to enhance integration and communication between Chinese and foreign students and promote international students’ understanding of Chinese culture.
