From October 25th to November 8th, the “Chinese Bridge” Autumn Camp of members from Jilin University- Ukraine Kiev Gymnasium of Oriental Languages No.1 Confucius Classroom, with the support of Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters, successfully concluded in Jilin University. The vice principal, Ms. Zheng Weila of Ukraine Kiev Gymnasium of Oriental Languages No.1 led an 18-people delegation of faculties and students to participate in the autumn camp.
School of International and Public Affairs and College of International Education of Jilin University painstakingly designed courses with rich content. They not only offered intensive Chinese language courses and lectures on Chinese culture but also gave the camp members chances to experience calligraphy, painting, guzheng (Chinese zither), paper cutting, making tea and dumplings and other activities of traditional Chinese culture. During the stay, the camp members also visited the High School Attached to Jilin University, and observed its Chinese language courses and class meeting on social practice. They had dance exchanges and communication with Chinese students. In addition, the camp members visited Changchun Puppet Manchuria Imperial Palace and Changchun Movie Wonderland, and went to Beijing to visit Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters, Tian’anmen Square, the Palace Museum and the Great Wall.
After two weeks’ Chinese language study and cultural experience, all the Autumn Camp members were qualified for graduation. In the graduation ceremony, Bai Bing, Deputy Dean of School of International and Public Affairs and College of International Education, granted certificates of completion to the members and discussed with the Vice Principal Zheng Weila about the future development of Confucius Classroom. After this, the members performed Chinese and foreign songs and dances that they meticulously designed, showing what they had learned from the program.
Established in 1936, Ukraine Kiev Gymnasium of Oriental Languages No.1 is a renowned language school that focuses on Chinese. In 2012, it was approved by Hanban to become the Confucius Classroom under the Confucius Institute co-founded by Jilin University and National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv.
