In the afternoon of November 28th, the School of International and Public Affairs and College of International Education of Jilin University organized international students to visit Changchun First Automobile Works Group. Over 180 international students participated in this social practice activity, and they were from Hanban’s Confucius China Studies Program, or sponsored by Confucius Institute Scholarship and Chinese Government Scholarship, or from “Campus Asia” program and various inter-university exchanges.
Accompanied by the staff of Changchun First Automobile Works Group, the international students visited with keen interest the Hongqi Cultural Exhibition Hall and the production base of Benteng cars. In the exhibition hall, the students were introduced to and observed Hongqi cars that were produced in different years and learned about how the Hongqi cars, researched and developed by China independently, evolved from the very beginning. When watching the production line of cars, Javier, a Spanish doctor candidate jointly cultivated under the Confucius China Studies Program, Jawia said in surprise: “I did not know that China’s automobile industry could develop so fast, workers could operate so skillfully and production plants could be so automated.” During the same time, he also talked about the status quo of Spain’s automobile industry. He compared the two countries’ automobile industry and believed that China’s First Automobile Works would develop better and faster. After the visit, many other international students also said that they were happy to participate in such a meaningful activity and hoped to have more such opportunities.
Jilin University organizes cultural experience and social practice activities for international students regularly ever year, with the purpose of enriching their life and deepening their understanding of the Chinese culture, particularly the culture of Northeast China.
