Introduction
The School of Stomatology at Jilin University was derived from the department of stomatology of the Second Clinical Hospital affiliated with the First Military Medical University, founded in 1948. The Hospital of Stomatology was built in 1985. Five-year program students were first enrolled in 1979 and seven-year program students were first enrolled in 2002. The clinical science of stomatology was authorized to grant master’s degreesin 1981 and authorized to grant doctoral degrees in 1993. It was authorized to provide a first-level discipline doctoral degree program in 2003 and it was approved to provide a postdoctoralprogram in 2004 .
The Jilin University School of Stomatology from beginning to end has upheld the modern management model of integrating teaching, clinical, care, and research into a comprehensive whole. The school fully avails itself to and gives free rein to Jilin University’s advantages in comprehensiveness, openness, and research. It is supported by a core of cultivating human talents, a focus on contributing to the discipline, the establishment of high-quality teaching personnel, and the creation of requirements for experiential teaching and the foundations of clinical practice. Through high-level socialized healthcare service and creativity, our scientific research comprehensively improves the quality of personal talent cultivation. All of this serves to make the Jilin University School of Stomatology a high-level stomatology school which advances the field domestically and has an impact on the field internationally.
The School of Stomatology at Jilin University employs an integrative model of teaching, clinical care, and research, makes the best of the comprehensiveness, openness, and research advantages of Jilin University. It takes the cultivation of human talent as its core and focuses on disciplinary construction as its basic premises. Thanks to faculty development, the establishment of experimental teaching conditions and clinical practice base,as well as many other factors, the School of Stomatology has developed into a high-level hospital which is advanced domestically and has an impact worldwide.
The School of Stomatology has 93 faculty and staff members. Among them, there are 30 full professors, 30 associate professors, 6 Ph.D.supervisors, and 50 master’s student supervisors. The School has 7 departments that cover the fields of the basic science of stomatology, oral medicine, oral and maxillofacial surgery, prosthodontics, orthodontics, preventive dentistry and oral radiology. The School offers 5-year bachelor degree programs, 7-year master’s degree programs, oral medicine master’s degree programs, and doctoral and postdoctoral multi-level and high-level personnel training programs. The School is home to one first-class provincial key discipline, one provincial key laboratory, one key laboratory of the Science and Technology Agency, and one Provincial Development and Reform Commission Engineering Laboratory. In 2014, the oral medical experimental teaching center became the provincial experimental teaching demonstration center. Meanwhile, it was selected as the only national base for resident standardization training in the Northeast China region.
The school has conducted academic exchanges with more than 10 universities in the U.S., Sweden, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and elsewhere, establishing an international communication network.
