Hosted by China Scholarship Council and cohosted by Jilin University, “Experiencing China – ‘Study in China’ International Graduate Students Forum” was held successfully in the Academic Center of JLU Central Campus on November 14. 190 international students from 52 countries studying in Jilin University, Northeast Normal University, Changchun University, Changchun University of Science and Technology, Jilin University of Agriculture and Yanbian University attended the forum. Teachers and leaders from College of International Education and School of International and Public Affairs of JLU also presented in the forum. Bassem Khaled Abdelsalam Elmaghraby, an international graduate from SIPA, presided over the forum.

The theme of the forum is “From New China to New Era: China’s Interaction with the World”. Professor Wang Li and Dr. Yan Zhen made keynote speeches centering on the theme. Starting from “how to experience China”, Professor Wang explored why education mattered to culture, economy, science and technology and shared China’s experience with international education. Dr. Yan analyzed the different understandings of the world affairs by the academia of the world and discussed China’s positions from various aspects.

On the forum 22 student representatives from 16 countries made brilliant speeches on three topics – “One Belt and One Road Initiative and Community with a Shared Future for Mankind”, “China and the World”, and “China in the Eyes of International Students”. Talking from their respective specialized fields and their own experiences, the representatives probed into issues such as the influence of “One Belt and One Road Initiative” on the world, the connotation and construction of a community with a shared future for mankind, China’s interaction with the world on different levels, China’s institutional improvement and policy development, the study and life of international students in China, etc.

Dr. Zou Xiaolong from SIPA summarized the forum. Dr. Zou believed that international students served as an important bridge between China and all other countries of the world. By studying in China and experiencing the country, international students could enhance the mutual understanding and trust between China and the world. He also gave his best wishes to international students and wished them a wonderful time and unforgettable experience in China.

At the end of the forum, all speakers were conferred Certificates of Excellent Speaker. The teachers and students participating in the forum said that this forum built a platform not only for international students studying in Jilin Province to exchange and learn from each other, but also for higher learning institutions to exchange experiences in international education.
