The 58th JLU Track Meet was held successfully in the Stadium of Central Campus from 23rd to 24th of May. 242 international students from 37 countries participated in the opening ceremony, track and field events and dancing performances. With the great effort the students, the team won “the first award for performances”, 2 gold medals and 3 bronze medals.
Before the track meet, College of International Education fully publicized the event among international students and JLU International Students’ Union organized the selection and training of student athletes. 64 students were selected for 19 competitions. 39 students were selected for marching in square array and 139 students for performances.
In the opening ceremony, wearing their national costumes and shouting slogans “I love China; I love JLU”, students from 36 countries waved banners of China and their respective countries and showed all the students and teachers the spirit and manners of international students amid cheers and applause.
In track and field, international students competed with Chinese students and achieved outstanding results in women’s 100-meter race and rubber ball throwing, not only showing the sportsmanship of international students, but enhancing the friendship between them and Chinese students.
During the performance, the dancing team showed Russian, Mongolian, Indian, African and Chinese folk dances, which won applause and cheers from the audience. Wearing fancy costumes, students from different countries danced happily to the exotic music which was brisk at this moment and melodious at the next. The dancers clapped their hands to the beats of the music. At the end of their performance, students formed the shape of “70 CHINA” to express good wishes for the 70th anniversary of the founding of new China. The atmosphere touched everyone.
During the track meet, international students soccer team had an exhibition match with College of Physical Education team to show the spirit of “friendship first”.
International students’ active participation in the track meet showed not only the multi-cultural atmosphere of JLU campus, but the charm of sports competition. Meanwhile, it promoted the communication and harmony between Chinese and overseas students.
