On June 24, 14 delegates from the Confucius Institute of St. Cloud State University, accompanies by Yang Hong and Ding Chuan, Party Secretary and deputy director of Jilin Provincial Office of Hanban, visited JLU College of Int’l Education (CIE). Li Meihua, dean of CIE, had a work exchange with the delegates. Int’l student representatives from Nigeria, Uzbekistan, Georgia, etc., joined the exchange.
Li Meihua, first of all, extended her warm welcome to the delegation. She then introduced the development of the int’l education in JLU, Confucius Institute Scholarship Program, and Int’l Students Summer Camp, among other things. Professor Kathryn Elizabeth Johnson, the foreign dean of the Confucius Institute of St. Cloud State University, thanked CIE for the hospitable reception. Both sides discussed and built some initiatory consensus about the joint development of special education in both countries, the research program during summer vacation for int’l students, etc.
The delegation watched video clips about the 12th JLU Int’l Students’ Culture Festival and the award-winning works by JLU int’l students for Changchun Summer Travel Microcinema Contest. Int’l student representatives introduced the conditions and developments of special education in their respective countries. Leah Beth Kats-Hernandez, one of the delegates, shared with the participants her unforgettable experience when working with the Obama administration. Before the exchange, the delegation visited JLU Central Campus and communicated with some JLU students.
The Confucius Institute of St. Cloud University was built jointly by the Educational Department of Jilin Provincial Government and St. Cloud State University. The institute was inaugurated in May 2014. The delegation was also invited to “2018 Sino-US Forum on Education and Development of the Deaf” hosted by the Educational Department of Jilin Provincial Government.
