On November 10^th, 2017, hosted by China Scholarship Council, organized by Jilin University (JLU) and joined by Northeast Normal University, Jilin Agricultural University and Changchun University of Science and Technology, “Perceiving China in the Automobile Town” was officially launched.

This event brought together 92 Chinese Government scholarship recipients from 32 countries. They visited Jilin Ginyo Transport Facilities Company, CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd. and the Hongqi Exhibition Hall and Besturn production line of FAW Car Company. Dean Li Meihua of the College of International Education and Deputy Dean Xue Lei and related faculty members took part in this event.

The opening ceremony was held in Ginyo Transport Facilities Company. Dean Li Meihua made opening remarks expressing gratitude to the companies that supported this event and hoping that international students could learn about the histories of China’s automobile technology, high-speed railway and automobiles manufactured by China as well as the opportunities and challenges facing China’s automobile and transport facilities industries as the “Belt and Road” Initiative unfolded globally. JLU student Maria, a postgraduate student from Russia, made a speech on behalf of students and thanked JLU for offering such a chance for them to know more about automobile technology. Later, Marketing Director Zhao Libo from Ginyo Transport Facilities Company introduced in detail the technologies, exports and development of the company’s products and extended warm welcome to the delegation.

While visiting the facilities production floor, students showed great interest and raised questions, which the guide answered one by one based on the actual case. This made them feel that the research and production of any facility was only possible after repeated professional trials.

Then they visited the production floor of CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd. The guide introduced the profile of the company, the exports and international status of their vehicles. In the Q&A session, students raised all kinds of technical questions and were answered by the guide who also referred to the specific circumstances in production.

On November 13^th, students visited the Hongqi Exhibition Hall and Besturn production line of FAW Car Company. In the Exhibition Hall, they were introduced to the history of every car and were impressed and awed. While visiting the Besturn production line, they saw the assembly line based manufacturing of a car from the onset. They showed great interest in such efficient integrated production.

This event enabled international students to know about automobile technologies of all aspects and the great development and changes of industrial technologies in recent years. It made them fully understand the importance of Chinese automobile and railway vehicle industries in the international community and know about the history, industrial profile, technology capacity and future growth of China’s automobiles.
