On July 16th, the Summer Camp of Jilin University-Hanyang University Confucius Institute had its graduation ceremony. Professor Yue Hui, Dean of School of International Chinese Language Education, granted graduation certificates to all camp members, which marked a successful end to the two-week experience and study of the Chinese language and culture.
From July 3rd to 16th, Jilin University (JLU) arranged basic Chinese language courses and cultural experience courses for the 21 members from the Confucius Institute at Hanyang University. The members did listening, writing and speaking exercises, experienced traditional Chinese culture such as tea ceremony, paper-cutting and dumpling-making, and attended lectures on specific topics including current affairs and politics and China’s communication technologies. Besides, the members toured the JLU campus, the Puppet Manchurian Imperial Palace & Exhibition Hall and CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd., watched Chinese films and had cultural experience activities at Changbai Mountains. Thanks to these activities, the members learned about the status quo of Northeast China, specially its history, social development and natural environment.
During the summer camp, Professor Zhang Huizhi from the Northeast Asian Studies College of JLU analyzed the current situation of the Korean Peninsula from China’s perspective. Professor Kang Jian from College of Communication Engineering of JLU presented the basics of China’s communication technological development. The visit to CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd. gave the members an intuitive sense of China’s strength in manufacturing and science and technologies. All of them were surprised by and marveled at the rapid progress of China’s high-speed rail.
JLU student companions selected by the College of International Education beforehand were present during the whole summer camp and helped the South Korean students address their difficulties in life and study, developing a deep bond with them.
The summer camp is a student exchange that JLU carried out in cooperation with the Confucius Institute at Hanyang University of South Korea. Via targeted Chinese language learning and Chinese culture experience activities, it aims at helping the South Korean students know more about the Chinese language and culture and popularize Chinese language teaching.
