On June 12^th, 2016, “Knowing China: Science and Technologies in Jilin”, a cultural experience activity for international students who were sponsored by Chinese Government Scholarship, took place in Changchun and Jilin city. About 80 teachers and students from Jilin University, Northeast Normal University, Changchun University of Science and Technology and Changchun University took part in this activity.

On the first stop, students and teachers visited the exhibition hall and production lines of Hongqi cars produced by Changchun First Automobile Works, and learned about the history and status quo of the automobile company. On the second stop, they visited the factory of railway vehicles and inter-city trains owned by CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd., where they learned about the manufacturing of railway vehicles. On the last stop, they arrived at the Planning Exhibition Hall of Jilin Chemical Industry Circular Economy Pilot Park as well as Jilin Dadi Chemical Group Co., Ltd.

Palamdorj Bayartsetseg, a Mongolian doctor candidate majoring in international relations in School of International and Public Affairs, Jilin University, said: “We love this activity very much. Science and technology, be it of automobiles or trains, fascinates me. China should be proud of it.”

In Jilin chemical industrial park, the chemical enterprises that can be found everywhere drew the attention of many international students. Rajesh Shan, a Nepalese graduate studying clinical medicine in Jilin University, made his comments: “My study focus is always medicine. In the chemical exhibition hall, I saw some familiar materials that were applied to not only medicine but also chemistry extensively. It seems that there exists a strong connection between medicine and chemistry.”

This cultural experience activity allowed the international students to glimpse into China’s automobile manufacturing and chemical industry and develop an initial understanding of China’s own industry brands. Thanks to this opportunity of having direct contact with China’s science and technologies, the international students now understand and love China more than before.
