Changchun in June is a colorful city with warm breezes and sunshine. Again came graduation time, and Jilin University is about to see off a batch of international students who will return to their own country all over the world. Amid laughter and tears, Jilin University organized a wide range of activities to celebrate graduation.
In the morning of June 25th, 209 international graduate students from 57 countries attended the commencement ceremony of class 2016, 16 of whom were awarded the honor of Outstanding Graduates of Class 2016 of Jilin University. Around the ceremony, Party Secretary Yang Zhenbin, President Li Yuanyuan and Executive Vice President Chen Gang, among others, met the students attending the ceremony and took photos with all the international students.
On June 25th and 26th, international students attended the degree granting ceremony for class 2016. This year, altogether 209 international students obtained a degree, 18 of whom being doctors, 94 masters and 97 bachelors.
In the afternoon of June 27th, the 2016 International Students Graduation Gala of Jilin University took place in the International Lecture Hall in the Central Campus. Representatives of teaching and research institutes and administrative departments as well as 200 graduates attended the gala.
The gala was divided into three parts, farewell, performance and dinner. First, a short video that recorded the life and study of international students was played. Liu Debin, President Assistant and Dean of School of International and Public Affairs, delivered a speech. He congratulated the international students on completing their study successfully and hoped that they would serve as a bridge of friendship between China and their own country and apply the expertise they acquired in Jilin University to causes for world peace and development. Naima Sharifdahir from Somalia and Nguyen Quoc Tu from Vietnam spoke on behalf of the graduates. They shared the unforgettable experiences of studying in China and expressed their gratitude to their parents, teachers and the university. Li Junjiang, Dean of Economics School, gave the graduates souvenirs, and the graduates gave their graduation guestbook to their alma mater. In the performance session, staying international students presented their elaborately designed exotic songs and dances, crowning the gala. Amid laughing and singing, the gala moved to dinner time. Over delicious food, the graduates shared their joy of reaping fruits from their study.
Jilin University has been formally admitting international students since the 1960s, and has by now cultivated 3,600 students from 102 countries. International students add special beauty to Jilin University. Offering international education not only makes the university more internationalized but also enhances its international influence.
