In January 2017, College of International Education organized and led 165 students to make a cultural experience journey to Harbin in three batches. The purpose was to enrich the extra curricular life of international students, help them understand China more comprehensively by experiencing the charm and culture of different cities and nurture their friendliness towards China.
Upon arrival by bus, the international students first visited the Central Avenue, the exotic century-old avenue, and the Flood Control Memorial Tower, the symbol of Harbin’s heroism, and Saint Sophia Cathedral. When lights were lit at dusk, they came to the Ice and Snow World that was Harbin’s symbol. Ice sculptures of all shapes looked gorgeous against the colorful lights. The low temperature did not diminish the beauty of the wonderland.
On the second day, the international students visited the Sun Island where they were amazed by the craftsmanship of snow sculptors and experienced the unique beauty of Harbin in winter. On their way back, in their Wechat group conversations, many of the international students expressed their gratitude to the teachers and their love for this two-day tour. The journey ended on a happy and satisfactory note.
The journey to Harbin, in an artistic way, revealed the charm of North China. It gave the international students a more intuitive understanding of the landscape and customs of Northeast China as well as an opportunity for them to better learn the Chinese culture.
