2019 New Year Party for International Students in JLU is successfully held on December 29th, 2018. Participants of the Party included representative supervisors of excellent int’l students, people in charge of School of Int’l Education, Students’ Affair Department, the Int’l Exchange Service Center of JLU Logistics Service Group among other JLU administrative departments and over 600 int’l students.
The New Year Party consisted of award ceremony, performance and free talk. Trophies were awarded to teachers to show gratitude for their diligence in the last year and to int’l students to spur them study harder and join in the activities more enthusiastically. Warm and joyous family atmosphere was created during the performance and free talk to make int’l student feel at home and to build their senses of belonging, indentifying and uniting.
36 teachers and 74 Chinese and overseas students were awarded on the stage during the ceremony. 12 kinds of awards included Excellent Int’l Student Supervisor Award, Excellent Head Teacher Award, 2018 Chinese Government Scholarship, Academic Achievement Award, Int’l Student Attendance Award, Excellent Student Award, Excellent Student Leader Award, Excellent Contributor to Activities Award, Award for Composition Contest of “Culturally Immersed in JLU”, Excellent Int’l Students’ Affair Administrator Award, Excellent Int’l Student Counselor Award, Excellent Student Assistant Award. These awards showed appreciation and commendation to the teachers and encouragement and compliment to students.
As a representative of excellent int’l student supervisors, Professor Zhang Leisheng from Higher Education Research Institute said in his speech that he cherished the chance to meet with and to know more about int’l students. This chance for int’l exchange should be appreciated since it did not come easy. He hoped that all int’l students value the chance and the time to work harder. Bai Si’an from Egypt, representative excellent int’l student, also shared his experience about when he had just arrived at and begun his life and study in JLU. He really appreciated the platform JLU built for students to study and communicate. He was very thankful for all the teachers and friends from different countries for their instruction and company. He also encouraged all int’l students to fully avail themselves of the time in JLU and to set clear goals and fight for them.
After the award ceremony, the performance meticulously prepared by the int’l students pushed the Exchange to the climax. The show began with a lively typical Chinese opening song and dance “Good luck, China!” It was followed by the debut of Int’l Students’ Choir – two songs, “Edelweiss” and “Mo Li Hua (Jasmine Flower)”. The melodious song was full of the conference room, providing the audience with an audio banquet and the positive energy of Chinese charm. Next was the martial art show. With sonorous but peaceful music, 11 students from different countries in Tai Chi costumes showed the charm of Chinese Kungfu with their powerful moves. The student dancers from India, Mongolia, Japan, Pakistan and some African countries were dressed in their national costumes. Their folk dance turned the room into a sea of joy. Finally came the traditional costume show. Int’l students not only showed their own cultures in their national costumes, but dressed themselves in Chinese Tang Costume, Han Costume and the Costume in the style of ROC period. They came to the stage and bowed to the audience in traditional Chinese way and the charm of Chinese etiquette they demonstrated won rounds of applause. With their beautiful songs, exotic dances and touching performance, int’l students showed the audience from home and abroad their unique demeanors.
People’s enthusiasm did not abate at all during the free talk after the performance. Some went to the stage to sing and dance to celebrate the coming new year. The curtain of the Exchange fell amid laughter and cheer. After the Exchange, 巴卡, a student from Mali said, “Tonight we danced and sang, although we are speaking different languages, because of Jilin University we could share the same happiness.” Many int’l students thanked JLU for holding the Exchange and said this was the warmest and most unforgettable New Year they had ever had in China. They thanked their classmates and friends for their wonderful performances, their exchange and sharing. They also thanked the teachers for preparing the Party. It was them who made the int’l students love JLU and China more.
