On the evening of February 15th, 2018, the eve of the Chinese lunar new year, the Spring Festival Gala for International Students of Jilin University (JLU) was held in the canteen on the third floor of Shenzi Yuan Dinning Hall on the central campus. Amid a joyful atmosphere, Professor Zheng Weitao, JLU Vice President, leaders of the Department of Student’s Affairs, the Graduate School, the College of International Education and the Logistics Group, over 270 international students from more than 50 countries and 90 staying Chinese students gathered together to enjoy the reunion dinner and wait for the arrival of the Chinese Year of the Dog.
Cheerful music kicked off the gala, hosted by Fatma Ceren Atay, Mahmoud Mudalal, Patrick Blessing Ogechukwu and Bilal Muhammad Atif in Chinese and English.
On behalf of JLU Party Secretary Yang Zhenbin, President Li Yuanyuan and all the faculties, Vice President Zheng Weitao delivered festive greetings to the students, wishing them a happy and auspicious new year and academic progress. He also thanked all the employees who still worked on the new year’s eve to prepare for the reunion dinner.
The international students performed songs like Happy New Year, In Case You Didn’t Know, Gongxi Facai, You Are the One, A Rain Cloud in the Wind and Home Sweet Home. Then Chinese and international students together sang Love by the band The Little Tigers as a gesture of friendship. The wonderful performances and melodious songs led to a more and more animated atmosphere and many rounds of applause.
As students were eating hot dumplings and delicious food, Vice President, on behalf of JLU, gave a red envelop symbolizing auspiciousness and good luck to every student present. The students were all very touched and beamed with joy. What a happy and festive gathering!
The gala eased international students’ nostalgia. JLU students and teachers, like a big and harmonious family, bade farewell to the wonderful and rewarding year of 2017 and welcomed the more beautiful and hopeful year of 2018.
