In the afternoon of June 19th, music instruments were played and songs and dances were presented in the International Lecture Hall of the Central Campus. The Special Performance of the 10th International Cultural Festival—The 2015 Graduation Gala for International Students was held here. Attendees included over 300 international students that were about to graduate in 2015, and relevant leaders and teachers from such departments as the CPC Jilin University Committee Office, President’s Office, Publicity Office, Department of Student’s Affairs, Youth League Committee, Security Office, Division of International Relations, International Exchange & Service Center, College of International Education, School of International and Public Affairs and School of International Chinese Language Education. The whole gala was animated in an unprecedented way.
The gala opened with dance “Aerobics Girls” presented by International Students Art Troupe; all the young girls were vigorous. The Martial Arts Association of Jilin University performed “Chinese Martial Arts” and Pakistan students performed “Chivalry”, which showed us the charm of Chinese martial arts and its foreign counterpart. South Korean students played guzheng (the Chinese zither) and Pulse Band played the drum set, together presenting a novel and unique performance of “Zuixuan minzufeng”. The performance of students from multiple countries playing their musical instruments combined with ventriloquism symbolized the harmonious co-existence of cultures. The exotic dances painstakingly choreographed by students from Russia, Ukraine, Pakistan, Nepal and India were all ingenious. “We are from Bollywood” performed by Indian students drew the attention of all the people present. The exotic performance, composed of joyful Bollywood music and the beautiful and sprightly dances of students, enlivened the gala and won one around of applause after another. Nepalese students once again thanked all the teachers and students of Jilin University for their sincere care and love to the Nepalese people that helped them tide over the difficulties caused by the severe earthquake that hit Nepal on April 25th. At last, the gala concluded successfully against the lively and passionate music of “We Are One”.
Laughter and joy permeated the whole gala, but it was not free from the sorrow over departure. Once again flowers blossom in summer; once again comes the graduation time. The international students presented their beautiful singing and cheerful dances as their gift of graduation to their alma mater.
With the conclusion of the gala, the three-day 10th International Cultural Festival of Jilin University was also brought to an end. The International Cultural Festival offered opportunities of exchanges and communication to students of different nationalities, colors and faiths from all over the world. It helped the international students to know more about and interact more often with Chinese students and added to the richness of their study experience in China. The cultural festival also broadened the global horizon of students and made the culture of Jilin University more internationalized.
