At 6 p.m., October 14th, “Beauty that Transcends Borders: Exchanges of Traditional Chinese Culture”, the first International Cultural Salon for Chinese and international Students of Jilin University, took place in the International Lecture Hall on the west of the library in the Central Campus. Hundreds of Chinese and international students in the university participated in it.
With a show of gorgeous and elegant Hanfu (Han Dynasty’s clothing), the International Cultural Salon for Chinese and international Students of Jilin University kicked off. With this show and the explanation of hosts, Chinese and international students together appreciated courtesies and rites of ancient China and were amazed by the profound and extensive Chinese culture. The facial mask activity that followed immediately aroused immense interest of Chinese and international students. The international students developed a keen interest in Chinese culture and finished their own piece of work during the course of learning and exchanges to their satisfaction. Then calligraphy demonstration and pitch pot games pushed the atmosphere to a climax. Chinese and international students engaged with great enthusiasm and gained a deeper understanding of Chinese culture. During the process, students discussed traditional Chinese culture in English or Chinese, and talked about the culture embodied by Hanfu and the experience of making ancient facial masks. The International Cultural Salon deepened international students’ understanding of Chinese culture and provided a good exchange platform for Chinese students to practice English.
The International Cultural Salon was initiated this semester and will regularly hold themed activities with the participation of Chinese and international students of Jilin University, such as the International Cultural Festival, themed forums on international culture, week of national culture, symposium on hot spot international issues, foreign language corners, creative campus and experience sharing on students’ experience overseas. It will strengthen the exchanges between Chinese and international students, expand the global horizon of the vast number of students on campus and enhance the international competitiveness of Jilin University’s students.
