At 6 p.m., October 30th, the Halloween Night, which was also the third International Cultural Salon for Chinese and international students of Jilin University, kicked off in the stadium of the Central Campus. This cultural salon was hosted by Division of International Relations, College of International Education and School of International and Public Affairs. It was organized by International Students Association and Outdoor Sports Club of Jilin University. Leaders and teachers from College of International Education and hundreds of Chinese and international students took part in this salon.
With the cool fluorescent Nunchakus performance and the energetic dances, the cultural salon kicked off. The two performances set the Halloween Night on a cheerful note and became a highlight of this activity. Then, the Halloween Night, hosted by Yuan Zeqiang from International Students Association and U.S. student Aguilar Emilyn Nicole, officially began. Chinese and international students who were dressed up with creative costumes and unique masks danced to the music. They talked and danced as they loved to, infecting every one else present with the lively atmosphere and adding some warmth to the cold late autumn in North China. Also, staff from International Students Association set up signature zone, human-shaped photo-taking boards, food zone, rest zone and game zones such as those for painting pumpkins and for picking up words with chopsticks. These zones greatly contributed to and enriched the activity and also promoted the exchanges between Chinese and international students. At last, the singing by Wang Yumen from International Students Association and the selection of best costumes drove the atmosphere to reach the highest point. After this, the activity ended amid this dynamic atmosphere. Unwilling to leave, the participants took photos with others.
This cultural salon had the characteristics of Western culture and catered to the cultural habits of Western students. It enriched the cultural life of Chinese and international students on campus, and provided a creative forum for them to exchange and their cultures to interact.
The International Cultural Salon was initiated this semester and will regularly hold themed activities with the participation of Chinese and international students of Jilin University, such as the International Cultural Festival, themed forums on international culture, week of national culture, symposium on hot spot international issues, foreign language corners, creative campus and experience sharing on students’ experience overseas.
