“The Chinese Bridge: In Search of Jilin Cultural Beauty” hosted by the Education Department of Jilin Province and Press Office of Jilin Provincial Government successfully concluded on November 7th in Changchun University. College of International Education organized Russian students Iatcyna Valentina and Mariia, Argentine student Cacurri Nicolas, Mali student Bah Boubacar Alpha and South Korean student Park Jihyun to participate as a team and they won the champion by a significant margin. The five international students and Li Lili, the instructing teacher from the School of International Chinese Language Education, won the individual prizes “Star of Chinese Culture for International Students” and “Best Instructing Teacher” respectively.
Nine universities and nine secondary schools were paired and formed nine teams for the competition. The nine universities were Jilin University, Northeast Normal University, Changchun
University of Science and Technology, Jilin Agricultural University, Jilin University of Finance and Economics, Changchun University of Technology, Changchun Normal University, Changchun University and Huaqiao University of Foreign Languages. The nine secondary schools were the Second Experimental School of Jilin Province, Changchun Experimental High School, High School Attached to Northeast Normal University, High School Attached to Jilin University, Changchun Foreign Language School, Jilin Provincial Experimental School, Changchun No.2 Experimental High School, Changchun Zhaoyang Experimental School and Changchun No.108 Middle School. The five international students of Jilin University and students from the Second Experimental School of Jilin Province jointly performed “Yanbian Is the Most Beautiful”. With its elaborate design, consummate performance, humorous and lively language and expression of charm of the Korean ethnicity people in Yanbian, this program was applauded by all people and widely well-received by professional judges and earned many popular votes, and thus won the first prize by a large margin.
The series of activities “The Chinese Bridge: In Search of Jilin Cultural Beauty” mainly targeted at international students loving Chinese culture. Contestants were asked to dig into the nine major local cultures within Jilin Province, explore the “top ten cultural features” of each locality and make specific plans of cultural travel routes. The purpose is that this process of searching would enable the many international students in China, through the deep integration and interaction between different cultures, to jointly experience and explore the beauty of Jilin culture and even the Chinese culture.
This journey of cultural exploration boosted the international students’ enthusiasm for learning the Chinese language and Chinese culture and served as a foundation for them to spread the Chinese culture in the future.
