On October 15th, 2016, the activity “Knowing China: Visits to Northeast Agricultural Bases” officially kicked off. This project was hosted by China Scholarship Council and organized by Jilin University and involved the participation of Jilin Agricultural University and Changchun University of Chinese Medicine.
This activity brought together 85 international students from 27 countries who were sponsored by Chinese Government Scholarship. They visited the Sheling fruit and vegetable base of Changchun Guoxin Modern Agricultural Science Co., Ltd., the Sky View corn base of Jilin Sky View Food Co., Ltd. and Jilin Provincial Museum of Chinese Medicine. Li Meihua, Dean of College of International Education, and relevant teachers from Jilin Agricultural University were present during the whole process.
The inauguration took place in the Sheling fruit and vegetable base of Changchun Guoxin Modern Agricultural Science Co., Ltd. Li Meihua, Dean of College of International Education, Delivered the opening speech and thanked the enterprises and media supporting this activity. Yang Boming, General Manager of the Sheling fruit and vegetable base, gave a brief introduction to the agricultural development in Northeast, China and Guoxin Modern Agricultural Science Co., Ltd. He also warmly welcomed all the people present.
During the visit to the fruit and vegetable bases, students showed a keen interest in the organic fruit and vegetables in greenhouses. They asked guides technical questions based on their own country’s actual conditions. They also picked and ate tomatoes and cucumber and so on.
Jilin Sky View Food Co., Ltd., via a short video, introduced how Jilin, sitting on the “golden corn belt”, used its unique agricultural resources to develop its corn deep processing industry. During the visit to the Sky View corn base, students ate a series of deep processed products, such as corn kernels and corn juice.
At last, during the visit to Jilin Provincial Museum of Chinese Medicine, the guide, following a chronological order, showed the international students the evolution of Chinese medicine. Seeing the mysterious veil of the Chinese medicine lifted, students were amazed by the ancient medicine in China as well as the wisdom of ancient Chinese people.
Via this cultural experience activity, the international students learned about Jilin as a major agricultural province and a commodity grain base as well as the great developments and changes brought by new revolutions in agricultural technologies. The activity also opened the door for the international students to know more about Jilin province and China at large.
