I. Introduction of Campus Network of Jilin University

The campus network of Jilin University was launched in 1995. With development in the past two decades, it is the second to none among all university in China in its scale, covering 6 campuses of Jilin University and more than 500 blocks and buildings. All student dormitories, teaching buildings, office buildings have access to cable network. Moreover, to meet the demands of the speedy development of wireless smart mobile terminals, JLU.NET wireless network of Jilin University is expanding rapidly, with an increasingly wider coverage.

II. Charge Rate of Campus Network in Student Dormitories

IP subscription fee is 20 yuan/month (per calendar month). IP subscription in February and July is free of charge.

Calendar month refers to a period of duration from the first date of one month to the last date of the same month.

III. Preparation for Campus Network Subscription

Before subscribing the campus network, please check the MAC address of the network card of your computer. Methods are as follows:

For computers equipped with Win Xp, Vista, Win 7, etc., please click start run, type cmd to enter dos model, then type ipcongig/all, and copy down the MAC address from the Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection section. (MAC address, also known as the physical address, is typically a 12-character octal number, as shown in the picture below in the red box: 00-1F-D0-0D-D8-86). After checking the MAC address, you can apply for the campus network subscription.

IV. Procedures of Subscription

Procedures of applying for network subscription through online self- service portal with your campus smart card:

You need to pay 100 yuan in total for five-month subscription if you open the account online (As subscription in February and July is free of charge, you may use the network for six months in actual). Therefore, you need to deposit a minimum of 100 yuan in your campus smart card. You can top up your campus smart card on automatic transfer machines at the campus or at the designated counter in the cafeteria if there is insufficient balance in your smart card.

Please visit: http://ip.jlu.edu.cn/pay/ to log in the online self-service portal.

The initial password of your smart card is the last six digits of your passport number.

You will be directed to the page as follows upon successful login.

Click , and fill in the form online as required. After submitting the accurate information and subscription is approved, you will be directed to a page with all IP information of your subscription, including: IP address, sub network mask, default gateway, address of DNS server. Please note down all the information.

If your IP address is lost, you can check it through the online self-service portal by clicking Information Inquiry at any time.

Then you can set up your computer by yourself, by clicking start control panel network connections, right-clicking local connections and selecting Profiles, and then double-clicking Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to enter the interface as follows:

Select Use the following IP Address, and copy the information you noted down after opening an account accordingly (Fill in all the blanks excluding Backup DNS Server. Click Confirm and then Exit.

Notice: the setup of IP address and other setups are exclusively used for cable network. It is unnecessary to set up IP address for wireless connections, which can be obtained and set up automatically.
